Re: County Schools to close for the solar eclipse:
What a waste of an educational opportunity.
The local folks in-charge of the Hamilton County, Tn., school system just announced that they are going to cancel school on Aug. 21 the day of the eclipse. To protect the children from being on the school bus during the time of the eclipse. It will be dark and other drivers may not be paying attention and there could be an accident.
Despite that teachers have purchased (out of their pocket) special lesson plans and safety devices to use in an effort to educate the children. No, those in charge that run the system aren't smart enough to delay the start of school that day by maybe an hour or whatever might be necessary so the children have an opportunity to be supervised during the event and then sent home afterward. No, it is better to have thousands of kids wandering around during the eclipse, staring at it without having a clue of the damage they may be causing to their eyes, than to keep them in school a couple hours longer and then taking them home.
The weather guessers have already indicated a high probability it will be overcast that day and the children will be protected from the risk. The adults certainly don't see to be interested.
