Eastern National, a partner to the National Park Service and Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, has funded a new mobile app to locate monuments of regiments that served during the Campaign for Chattanooga.
Andriod and iPhone users can download the app, entitled “Chickamauga Battlefield,” which allows visitors to locate various Union and Confederate monuments, markers, and tablets located throughout the national military park. Now, when a visitor is interested in a particular unit that fought in the campaign, they may type in the regiment and instantly see on their phone where the unit fought and see a photo, location, and text of the monument, marker, or tablet.
A locally based company, Video Ideas Productions, was able to use its Points Map system to assist with the app’s creation. Park volunteers and staff assisted with the data input to enable the system to work. Hours were spent walking trails and plotting the maps. Video Ideas continues to maintain and update the app on a regular basis.
This new app is now available at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. Download the app and see where an ancestor fought during the Campaign for Chattanooga.
