Babies And The Workhouse - And Response

  • Saturday, September 2, 2017

I read with amazement one member of the Grand Jury's "thoughts" about adding a nursery to the workhouse.  This last sentence was profound:

"The presumption should be that babies should remain with their mothers unless there are compelling reasons for separating them."

Perhaps one "compelling" reason would be the mother is locked up because, knowing she was expecting, she broke the law?

Luxury criminal lifestyle indeed.

I’m a tired old senior that has worked since the age of 16 - 49 years.  Have fought many struggles in my lifetime to do better but was never offered free day care services for my children by the government so myself or the mother of my children could be close at hand while we worked our tax-paying jobs.

If a mother of 1, 2, 3 or more children is homeless she should commit a crime to gain access to lock up system and enjoy her roof, food and social activities while her children are taken care of free of charge.

Who says crime doesn’t pay?
