Richard Gerald Tompkins, Sr., 80, of Rossville, went home to be with his Lord on January 18, 2018 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Tompkins was a lifelong resident of the area, and of the Baptist faith. He attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and enjoyed drag racing, fishing, camping and loved NASCAR, but most of all Richard loved the time he spent serving his country in the United States Air Force.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Tompkins; wife, Dorothy O’Dell Tompkins; brother, James Oliver Tompkins (Connie); and sister, Shirley Eaves.
Survivors include children, Sherry Lingerfelt (Jeff), Richard Garland Tompkins (Rhonda), Jeffery Lynn Tompkins (Davina) and Christopher Michael Tompkins, Sr. (Katie); eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Tompkins will be Tuesday Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. in the chapel, with Bro. Clyde Painter officiating. Internment will follow in the Lakewood South Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from noon-8 p.m., all day Sunday and Tuesday until the funeral hour.
