LWV Chattanooga To Host Candidate Forum For U.S. Congressional District 3 Oct. 22

  • Friday, October 12, 2018
The League of Women Voters of Chattanooga will partner with Southern Adventist University’s School of Journalism and Communication and History and Political Studies Department to host a candidate forum for U.S. Congressional District 3. The forum will take place on Monday, Oct. 22 in the Hulsey Wellness Center, 480 University Dr. in Collegedale from 6-8 p.m.  Doors open to the public at 5:30 p.m.

Congressman Chuck Fleischmann and Dr. Danielle Mitchell have been invited to participate in this event.
Dr. Mitchell has confirmed her attendance, but Congressman Fleischmann has not yet responded.  "The goal of this forum is to provide a venue for public education about the candidates’ platforms and positions, enabling voters to make informed decisions, and we certainly hope both candidates will participate," officials said.

The forum will have standing rules for participants, such as time limits for opening and closing statements and responses to questions. A moderator will conduct the forum, and a timekeeper will notify candidates when their time is up. Members of the audience will submit questions in writing, and a panel will screen them to eliminate duplicates. No derogatory comments about opponents or arguments/debates between the candidates will be permitted. The candidate forum will last approximately two hours. The entire forum will be Facebooked live, and the recording will be available on Facebook after the event concludes.

This candidate forum is nonpartisan. The LWV of Chattanooga and Southern Adventist University do not endorse candidates or contribute to political campaigns.
