Passport Application Fee To Increase April 2

  • Saturday, February 3, 2018

The optimal time to apply for passport is September to December. The passport world is not busy and one can often get their passport back way quicker without paying an expedite fee.

This year, if one is planning international travel and need a passport, they should consider making an appointment in the near future.  Beginning Monday, April 2, the processing fee for first timers, minors, lost or you got your last passport more than fifteen years ago goes from $25 to $35.

Adults renewing 10-year passports do not pay the processing fee. A study concluded that is how much it costs passport acceptance facilities to accept passports. The fee has been the same for nine year. There are no plans to increase the passport fee itself.

The State Department’s website, travel.state.gov is the best source of information about turnaround time, where to apply for a passport depending on departure time, and contact information for local Passport Acceptance Facilities.
