$150,000 Home Destroyed By Fire On Mowbray Mountain

  • Tuesday, February 6, 2018

Multiple 911 calls came in around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday reporting a house fire at 9978 Moonlight Trail on Mowbray Mountain. The house wound up being destroyed by the blaze.

The Mowbray Volunteer Fire Department responded and arrived on the scene reporting 80 percent of a two-story wood frame home was on fire. Fire officials reported the driveway to the house was very narrow and difficult to get fire apparatus up the driveway.

Fire Command decided to tanker shuttle water to the residence.

A mutual aid response was requested to assist Mowbray Volunteer Fire Department. Sequoyah Volunteer Fire Department responded with an additional water tanker and manpower and Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded with additional manpower. Mutual Aid Chief Mike Williams responded to the scene for any additional resources needed for the Mowbray Volunteer Fire Department.

Firefighters had a difficult time fighting the fire due to low water pressure at a fire hydrant and live power lines down on the property. Once the EPB arrived on the scene and turned off the power, firefighters were able to conduct a defensive attack on the entire home.

A woman and her three sons lost everything, and the Red Cross was called in to help with their immediate needs. Authorities said they were at a neighbor's house.

No injuries were reported.

Authorities said the house was in foreclosure.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. The house is a total loss and valued at $150,000.
