Nathan Hawkins fired a season-best 72 and the Covenant men's golf team finished 15th at the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate, hosted by Berry, in Pine Mountain. The final round, scheduled for Tuesday, was rained out.
As a team, Covenant shot a 312 in the opening round to place 15th. The tournament field featured 12 of the top 50 ranked teams in Division III, according to GolfStat.
The Scots were two shots ahead of 42nd-ranked, and USA South foe, Piedmont and only two strokes back of No.
30 Birmingham Southern. Oglethorpe, ranked No. 21, leads the tournament after posting a 285 in the opening round.
Hawkins was 3-over par after his first nine holes, but strung together consecutive birdies on the first two holes on the back nine as he finished at even-par for the day. The sophomore is coming off an 18th place finish in last week's The Master's University Spring Invite and was in a tie for 13th, just three strokes back of medalist Matt Organisak of Emory.
