The Metropolitan Bells are celebrating 25 years
The Metropolitan Bells is reaching back into the archives to resurrect favorite songs of the past for the spring concerts, including a few selections from its first concert. Audiences will hear a mix of original compositions, sacred songs, Broadway tunes, standard classics, and pop songs, as they celebrate 25 years.
The Metropolitan Bells is an advanced community handbell ensemble consisting of 15 auditioned ringers from the greater Chattanooga area. They perform on seven octaves of Malmark bells and seven octaves of Malmark choir chimes.
Established by founding director, Ken Cochrane, The Metropoliban Bells has enjoyed performances with the Chattanooga Symphony, the Chattanooga Boys Choir and the Chattanooga Girls Choir. The group has also performed for numerous civic groups and community events over the years.
The goal of the organization is to bring advanced sacred and secular handbell music to the community and to promote the art and enjoyment of handbell ringing. Now in its 25th year, the group is currently under the direction of Gary Bynum.
