Last week, St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School went to two competitions. On Thursday, April 19, SAS went to Chattanooga Christian School to compete against 11 schools for a Small School Challenge. Against these schools, SAS did a truly impressive job and took 2nd place overall for Varsity Women’s and 3rd place overall for Varsity Men’s. On Saturday, April 21, SAS went to McCallie to compete against 22 schools for a Mid-South Track Classic. At this competition, SAS worked hard and took 13th place overall for Varsity Women’s and 17th place overall for Varsity Men’s. At both competitions, SAS took home individual wins and medals.

CCS Competition

SAS had top three finishes in the following boys’ events: 200 3rd junior Davis Gill (South Pittsburg, TN); 110 Hurdles 2nd senior Bailey McLean (Sewanee, TN); 300 Hurdles junior Georgi Georgiev (Bulgaria); High Jump 2nd senior Emmanuel Thombs (Raleigh, NC); Long Jump 1st Emmanuel Thombs; and Shot Put 1st junior Jalen Tillman (Parkville, MD), 2nd senior Justin Elgouhary (Manchester, TN); Discus 1st Jalen Tillman, 3rd Justin Elgouhary.

 SAS had top three finishes in the following girls’ events: Triple Jump 1st sophomore Nneka Okolo (Medina, TN); 400 2nd freshman Sarah Grace Burns (Sewanee, TN), 3rd sophomore Lucy Carroll (Sewanee, TN); 4x100 2nd sophomore Sarah Beth Hobby (South Pittsburg, TN), Lucy Carroll, Nneka Okolo, and sophomore Jayla McLaurin (Las Vegas, NV); 100 Hurdles 3rd Sarah Grace Burns; 300 Hurdles 1st Sarah Beth Hobby; Long Jump 2nd Sarah Beth Hobby; High Jump 1st Sarah Grace Burns; Discus 1st sophomore Isabelle Gordy (Sewanee, TN); Shot Put 2nd Isabelle Gordy.

SAS athletes received medals in the following boys’ event: Shot Put 4th junior Jalen Tillman (Parkville, MD).SAS athletes received medals in the following girls’ events: Triple Jump  2nd sophomore Sarah Beth Hobby (South Pittsburg, TN); Long Jump 3rd Sarah Beth Hobby; Discus 4th sophomore Isabelle Gordy (Sewanee, TN).

“I’ve never been so impressed as I was watching these athletes run,” said Head Coach Sam Montgomery. “They fight through adversity and never give up.”

The team’s next competition will be at home on April 26 at St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School.
