Dog Rescued At Fire At House On Tunnel Boulevard

A dog was rescued at a fire at a house on Tunnel Boulevard on Friday morning.

At 11:02 a.m., Chattanooga firefighters were dispatched to a reported house fire at 1900 Tunnel Boulevard.
As the fire companies rushed to the scene, they were told that a woman might still be inside the house. Firefighters with Engine 15 were the first to arrive on the scene. Captain Danny Usher said light smoke was showing from under the house.

Aware of the report that someone may be inside, Captain Usher said firefighters made their way in to conduct a primary search. One firefighter found a small, pet dog inside and carried it out to safety. The firefighters continued their search through the house multiple times, but no one was found.

Meantime, other firefighters who arrived on the scene located the fire in a crawl space under the house and extinguished the fire in less than five minutes. No injuries were reported. The lone resident of the house was reportedly away at the time of the fire.

The firefighters put out the fire before it could cause much damage in the living space above. Captain Usher estimated the dollar loss at $1,500.

Chattanooga police, Hamilton County EMS and EPB also provided assistance on the scene.

In the photo: After Firefighter Brandon Polk with Engine 15 carried the dog out of the house, the canine was handed off to Paramedic Stacie Liles with Hamilton County EMS. The dog appeared to be scared, but uninjured.

The cause of the fire has been ruled accidental. The fire investigator says the fire was most likely caused by cigarette butts that were improperly discarded on the front porch.
