On a blistery and cold Saturday afternoon the Lee lacrosse team heated things up on the field as it dominated Truett-McConnell, 26-2 at the Lee Soccer Field.
Becca Broadwick led the scoring barrage with an incredible eight goals in the contest and now has a team-leading 55 goals on the season. The freshman is fourth in the GSC and 23rd in the nation in goals.
The Lady Flames started fast and never looked back as they jumped out to a 10-goal advantage at 11-1 with 17:28 left in the first half and went into the intermission up 15-1.
Lee set school records for goals in a game (26), goals in a half (15) and largest margin of victory (24).
"Becca is making a name for herself in the conference and the Division II," said head coach Addie Wadley.
"She's had a fantastic season and been a big part of our success."
"Today my teammates put in great spots to score," acknowledged Broadwick. "We are a really close group and the returning players have made us all feel so welcomed. We just try and rely on each other out there and play as one."
Abby Sanders got the win in net for the Lee. The sophomore from Walker Valley High School led a stingy Lee defense that allowed just two goals and five total shots.
Brianne Schapira added four goals for the Lady Flames while Emma Hill, Madeline Perrigo, Adriana DeVita and Kaylyn Dillon chipped in two each. Defenders Kally Bradford, Abby Fortner and Hannah Lee also got in on the fun as they scored their first goals of the season.
The Lady Flames outshot the Bears, 42-5 and held a 20-8 advantage on draw controls.
"It was nice to be able to switch up the lineup in the second half and get some of our defenders opportunities to score goals," added Wadley. We played a really complete game both offensively and defensively today.
Rachel Brown registered both goals for Truett-McConnell as they fall to 2-10 on the year.
The Lady Flames improve to 8-7 on the year and will finish out the regular season with two conference home matches next week. On Wednesday Lee entertains Alabama Huntsville at 4 p.m. before rival Shorter comes town next Saturday at 1 p.m.
"We will be tested on Wednesday. UAH is a very talented club so we will have to bring our very best for 30 minutes. We are also looking forward to wrapping up the regular season with Shorter. It will be senior day on Saturday so that will be very special," concluded Wadley.
