A Federal Court lawsuit has been filed in connection with the death of an inmate at the Hamilton County Jail last May.
The suit was brought by Jeffery Creed Simmons in the death of his father, 45-year-old Jeffery Simmons.
The complaint says Jeffery Simmons was arrested on meth charges and brought to the jail.
It avers that he began complaining of chest pains and sweating profusely, but was not given adequate medical attention.
By the next morning he was lying on the cell floor and eventually went unconscious.
The suit says during his time at the jail that other inmates would bang on the cell to try to get attention of jail personnel to help the ailing inmate.
The suit says attempts were made to use CPR on him, then to use a defibrillator. The initial defibrillator did not work so another had to be secured, it was stated.
He died after being taken to a hospital, and the cause of death was listed as a drug overdose combined with a heart condition, the suit says.
It was filed by Stuart James and McCracken Poston.
