The Dalton Police Department is asking for help from the public to solve a recent car theft.
The stolen vehicle was recovered along with a number of items, presumably belonging to the car thief or thieves, including a distinctive baseball cap investigators are hoping someone will recognize.
The incident happened shortly after 3 p.m. on May 24, at the Papa John’s at 100 West Walnut Ave.. When a pizza delivery driver walked back outside to make his next delivery, he found that his car had been stolen. The driver reported that he had left his car, a maroon 1997 Honda Accord, unlocked with the keys inside as he was expecting to return quickly.
The car was located abandoned three days later in southern Murray County by the Murray County Sheriff’s Office. The car had been spray painted black, and police found eight cans of spray paint still inside. Three were gloss black and four were flat black. There was also a red and black mesh style baseball cap inside with the slogan “When I SNAP you’ll be the First to Go!” on the front in red print. Also inside were several items the car’s owner said did not belong, including a folding knife and muddy gloves.
Anyone who thinks they know the suspect or who has any other information about this crime, is asked to please contact Detective Brian Shirley at 706 278-9085, ext. 9189.
