Chattanooga City Councilman Russell Gilbert To Host 3rd Annual "Rock The Block" Event

  • Tuesday, July 31, 2018
Chattanooga City Councilman Russell Gilbert (District 5) will host his annual "Rock The Block" Back to School Bash at the Brainerd Youth & Family Development Center, 1010 North Moore Road, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. this Saturday.

The free community event helps area youth get ready for the new school year with complimentary haircuts, hairstyles and dental screenings. Councilman Gilbert hopes to supply more than 700 children in need with brand new school uniforms, book bags and supplies.

“So much goes into being prepared for a school year and we want to make sure families feel fully prepared on day one to succeed and so much goes into that than just clothes and backpacks,” said Councilman Gilbert.
“Our goal here is to make sure families who are in need can send their child off on their first day without any concerns of them lacking supplies, the proper uniform or confidence that comes with something as simple as a fresh haircut.”
