Velma Ray (Tiny) Shoemake
Velma Ray (Tiny) Shoemake, 85, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, August 8, 2018.
Velma Ray (Tiny) was of Cherokee descent and a member of the Lower Cherokee Band of Alabama. She was a life-long member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 515. She was the first female dump truck driver for TVA. She was also proud to say she helped build the set of the movie Starman in Prentice Cooper State Park.
She was born June 28, 1933 to the late, Gilbert Shoemake and Thelma Bettis; also preceded in death by sons, Tony Guinn and Tommy Guinn; and brothers, Jack Shoemake and Alvin (Bill) Shoemake.
Those left to cherish her memory are her twin sister, Lella Morgan; daughters, Jimmie Hansard, Jerrie Scholtz and Jackie Scholtz; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 10, from 3-8 p.m. CST.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Tate Funeral Home Chapel Saturday, Aug. 11, at 3 p.m. CST. Interment will follow at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.
