Chattanooga Pro Soccer Team Will Be The Red Wolves

  • Monday, September 24, 2018

Chattanooga Pro Soccer announced its official name is Chattanooga Red Wolves Soccer Club.

Sourced from the Chattanooga community, the name received overwhelming support through the club’s engagement and outreach. As part of the Name Your Team campaign, the community considered five finalists. The professional team, which begins play in 2019, is part of the newly formed United Soccer League Division III.

“The level of engagement from not only local soccer fans but the greater community in naming our club is energizing,” said Chattanooga Red Wolves SC President and General Manger Sean McDaniel.

“We are excited to share the name with fans as this is one of many milestones for our professional soccer club. We plan to continue our engagement with the community as we further develop the brand and crest, which we will ultimately reveal and celebrate at a later date.”

Red wolves are native to the Southeastern United States and one of the most endangered species in the world. They have a unique presence in Chattanooga, which has rallied around not only saving the red wolves but creating an environment for the animals to thrive. Chattanooga plays a major role in protecting these beautiful and resilient creatures through the work of the Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center - one of only 41 wildlife sanctuaries in the nation, which houses the species.

“Through our efforts with the community to identify a name, we also learned about the red wolves’ significance in Native American history and Chattanooga’s history,” said team owner Bob Martino. “The red wolves represent great strength and courage – a value that will be embodied by our professional club on and off the pitch.”

In the coming weeks, the Chattanooga Red Wolves SC will reveal its crest and colors. The event will focus on bringing together the soccer community, raising awareness of organizations such as Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center and celebrating the city of Chattanooga.
