County Buying Property At Mahan Gap Road For North Ooltewah Sewage Treatment Plant

  • Wednesday, September 26, 2018

Hamilton County is planning to purchase property at Mahan Gap Road and Ooltewah-Georgetown Road for a planned sewage treatment plant.

The North Ooltewah Treatment Plant is to be operated by the county's Water and Wastewater Treatment Authority.

Mark Harrison, WWTA executive director, said the property is at 7800 Mahan Gap Road.

Officials said the county is buying the property from Danna Smith McWilliams for $2.6 million.

The funds are to come from a $45 million county bond issue.

The WWTA is to repay the county with interest, it was stated.

Mr. Harrison said there is some residential development nearby, but it is mostly undeveloped.

The WWTA currently sends its effluent to the city's Moccasin Bend Sewage Plant.
