Advisory Committee Named For Study Of Steep Slopes, Floodplains Ordinance

  • Tuesday, January 15, 2019

The Regional Planning Agency has named an advisory panel to help develop a city policy on building on steep slopes and floodplains.

Panel members include Phillip Clay, James Havron, Bob Geir, Tim McDonald, Jim Johnson, Chris Mabee, Mike Croxall, Mike Mallen, Jason Farmer, Donna Adams and Micah Duffy.

John Bridger, RPA executive director, said the committee will be advisory. "They won't be making any decisions."

He said additional public forums on the topic are planned, including at the end of February and the first of March as well as late April or early May.

City Council members may take field trips to other cities to study how they have handled the issue.

Councilman Jerry Mitchell asked the planning staff to consider "problem sites" - places where "they really screwed things up" as a learning tool.

A recommendation to the City Council is expected in July.
