Alexander J. Evers has been ordered to serve two years in the Silverdale jail after picking up a drug arrest while he was already on bond for a similar charge.

Under a settlement between the prosecution and defense, the 25-year-old Evers will avoid any felony charges while agreeing to have his probation revoked.

The first arrest came in 2018 after a search of his apartment on Mountain Creek Road turned up drugs, $8,802 cash, and five assault weapons.

He was bound over for possession of heroin and marijuana as well as drug paraphernalia and weapons.

A detective in that incident said officers first alerted on Evers after he called police to report that masked men were trying to break into his apartment.

He said there was a second home invasion try.

The detective said there was a smell of marijuana coming from the apartment so a drug-sniffing K-9 was brought in. He hit on the Evers unit.

A search found suspected heroin as well as large quantities of marijuana, digital scales, a vacuum sealer, a money changer and a safe.

Also found at various locations in the apartment were an AK47 assault rifle, an assault shotgun, two assault pistols, and a semi-automatic pistol, along with a large amount of ammunition. One of the weapons was described as an Uzi.

Evers arrived during the search and asked why there was interest in anyone having marijuana.

The detective said he talked with Evers' mother, who said her son "got addicted to the money coming in and the excitement." But she said he was ready to stop the drug sales.

It was found that Evers also had $32,000 in the bank.

He said he had quit a job at CVS, but worked part-time for Rick Davis Gold and Diamonds. However, officials said they had not heard of him at the Rick Davis operation.

The most recent arrest came while Evers was living with his mother on W. Bell Avenue in North Chattanooga.

An officer said he was checking on Evers for a possible probation violation when he noticed a strong smell of marijuana at the residence. He said a search turned up a handgun in a nightstand by Evers' bed, digital scales, baggies, a vacuum sealer, synthetic urine and $15,000 cash in a shoe box.

The officer said synthetic urine is used to help avoid dirty drug screens. A state probation officer said drug screens of Evers had shown slight amounts of a marijuana type substance, but nothing over the limit. Defense attorney Bill Speek noted that CBD is legal in Tennessee.

Also found at the Evers residence was a large bag of industrial hemp. Eileen Evers, his mother, said he used the hemp (CBD) to help with anxiety issues.

It was testified at a hearing before Criminal Court Judge Tom Greenholtz that Evers made his living selling tobacco products and clothing items at special events.

Gabrielle Johnson, the girlfriend of Evers, said the gun found in the nightstand was hers. She said it had been given to her by her ex-husband. She said she had never told anyone in the Evers household that she had placed it there.

Judge Greenholtz questioned the witness saying, "You are under oath, I am going to ask you one more time, that's not your gun is it?" Ms. Johnson insisted that it was.
