Daniel Carrasco
Daniel Carrasco has been named Lee University’s 2024 Charles Paul Conn Award recipient and was recognized for this achievement during the school’s Honors Chapel.
The CPC Award is given to a Lee senior who demonstrates the greatest promise of achievement in graduate or professional studies after graduating from Lee. Established in 1996, it is named after Lee’s 16th president. Each department may nominate one student for the award. From these nominees, a winner is selected by a faculty vote.
“Daniel came to Lee to get prepared for medical school, but he is leaving with a passion to study and develop biomechanical technologies,” said Dr. John Hearn, associate professor of chemistry at Lee. “He embodies Lee’s values, leaving equipped to serve others in a way that aligns with his Christian convictions and his academic interests. Those two qualities, along with his proven track record of academic excellence, make him deserving of this honor.”
While at Lee, Mr. Carrasco has maintained a GPA of 3.9 and has excelled in every one of his classes. He received the Presidential Scholarship as well as Phi Eta Sigma Honors.
Mr. Carrasco participated in the Phi Eta Sigma Freshman Honors Society and the Alpha Epsilon Delta Health Professional Honors Society. He was also a member of the Lee University Athletics cheerleading team from 2022-2023. He has served as a student worker in the Natural Science Department since the fall of 2022, where he tutored several students in physics and chemistry and aided in the creation and modification of apparatuses and procedures in chemistry labs.
“I am incredibly honored and grateful to receive this award,” said Mr. Carrasco. “I just thank God for what He has done because He opened the doors for me and guided my path. This award is evidence of God’s provision and support which provides hope for the future.”
Mr. Carrasco will graduate this May with a degree in biochemistry. He was accepted into the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he intends to pursue a PhD in biomedical engineering emphasizing biomechanics. He hopes to conduct research into the creation and improvement of exoskeletons and prosthetics and is particularly interested in neuromuscular control of robotic prosthesis.
