Dr. Benton Frank Spangler DDS, a beloved dentist and land developer, peacefully passed away on April 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving children and significant other.

He was born on May 19, 1936, in Lafollette, Tn., and was raised in Maryville, Tn. Dr. Spangler attended Everett High School and Carson Newman College before graduating from UT Memphis Dental School in 1960.

Throughout his career as a dentist, he was known for his excellence in providing painless and exceptional dental care to his patients in Chattanooga. He had a gentle touch and a compassionate nature, always ensuring that his patients felt comfortable and at ease during their treatments.

Aside from his dentistry practice, Dr. Spangler was a multi-talented individual. He could envision the reality and beauty of each property he encountered in Hixson and the Chattanooga area. Notably, he was known for the development of Greenway Farms in Hixson, where people fondly remember the Buffalo and rock quarry, as well as the Spangler Farm on Signal Mountain.

He enjoyed daily walks with his loyal canine companion and recently embarked on a memorable fishing trip to Wyoming with his brother and nephew, creating lasting memories together. He also went to Colorado to pan for gold, further showcasing his adventurous spirit. In addition to his many interests, he was an avid reader, always seeking knowledge and expanding his horizons. He valued education and intellectual growth, and his curiosity knew no bounds.

Dr. Spangler was not only a skilled hunter and marksman but also found joy in playing cards and spending quality time with his beloved family. He had a zest for life and cherished the simple pleasures, such as savoring a bowl of ice cream and basking in the warmth of the sunshine. He had a knack for telling jokes, bringing laughter to those around him. His unique personality and genuine love for people will be deeply missed.

Dr. Spangler was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Reba Spangler, and his daughter, Lindee Spangler.

He is survived by his significant other, Jane Griffith, his brother Dr. Burton H. Spangler (Margaret), his three children Jan Harley (Steve), Dana Bryan (Gary), and Mark Spangler, his five grandchildren Ashley Folkner (Cameron), Courtney Hendon (Clay), Mary Beth Scott (James), Sawyer Bryan (Shannon), and Paisley Meade, and his four great grandsons Caden Hendon, John Lucas Scott, Cooper Benton Hendon, and Silas Scott, and his nephew Benton Kirk Spangler. He is also remembered fondly by his dear friend Ben Parks, and his beloved dog Lil.

He leaves behind a rich legacy of compassion, creativity, and a zest for life. His dedication to dentistry, his talent as a developer, and his adventurous spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. His memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and the Chattanooga community.

The visitation and service for Dr. Spangler will be on Saturday, May 11, from 12-1 p.m. with the funeral at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at Hamilton Funeral Home on Hixson Pike.
