After completing a three-game sweep of Furman over the weekend and retaking sole possession of first place in the Southern Conference standings, the Mocs once again swept the weekly softball awards the league office announced today. Kaili Phillips was named the SoCon Player of the Week and Alyssa Lavdis picked up Pitcher of the Week honors.
Phillips, a senior infielder who was honored over the weekend for her career at UTC, had a productive week at the plate and made several outstanding plays in the field.
She hit .400 last week with all four hits a home run and drove in a team-best seven RBI. She slugged 1.600 and had a .455 on-base percentage.
On Tuesday, Phillips drove in two runs in the second inning to give the Mocs a 2-0 lead in an extra inning win at Tennessee State. Against SoCon foe Furman, Phillips hit three home runs over the weekend with two solo shots in the second game Saturday for two of the Mocs three runs in the win and a three-run shot in the fourth on Sunday to put Chattanooga up 10-0 for a run-rule victory.
Phillips has a team-best 14 home runs and ranks third in the SoCon standings. She has a conference-leading .812 slugging percentage and been plunked 15 times this season.
Alyssa Lavdis went 2-0 for the week picking up back-to-back complete game victories against Furman. She pitched 3 and 2/3 innings at Tennessee State with five strikeouts and giving one free pass. She struck out 10 batters for the week and only allowed the Paladins three hits in two games.
Lavdis posted a 0.89 ERA last week and on Sunday did not allow a hit in a complete game shutout of the Paladins. She faced the minimum number of batters in the five-inning game with one reaching on an error to third. She was thrown out, however, in the next at bat that resulted in a double play.
Lavdis is fifth in the SoCon with a 2.91 ERA, has 10 wins and three saves. She has thrown six complete games and has two no-hitters. She ranks fourth in the conference with 84 strikeouts in 101 innings of work and is second behind teammate Taylor Long for opponent batting average at .208.
Chattanooga closes out the home slate with a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening against Georgia State at Frost Stadium. It is a makeup game for the one rained out earlier this season.
Southern Conference play wraps up the weekend for Chattanooga at Western Carolina with a Saturday doubleheader and the finale on Sunday. The Mocs are currently one game up on UNCG for the conference lead.
