Trenton Woman Charged In Hit And Run Crash In St. Elmo

A Trenton, Ga., woman has been charged in connection with an incident in which a moped rider was killed in a hit-and-run crash in St. Elmo on Friday afternoon.

Betty Mundy, 53, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death or serious injury.

Police said 56-year-old David Joe Bruce was riding a moped northbound on St. Elmo Avenue when he was struck by another vehicle that was also northbound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene, but crashed a few blocks away while striking another car and a telephone pole on Tennessee Avenue. Traffic Investigators detained Ms. Mundy after the second wreck.

The moped wreck happened at 4:30 p.m. at 44th Street.
