Bachman students (members of the Headmaster's Council) open boxes containing Kindle Touch devices donated by Amazon Bradley County Fulfillment Center.
Amazon's Bradley County Fulfillment Center today donated 50 Kindle Touch devices to Bachman Academy in Cleveland, as well as $1,500 to purchase content for the devices. Bachman Academy serves boarding students and day students who have language-based learning differences, such as dyslexia.
"We are thrilled to receive this kind donation from Amazon.
It will make a world of difference to our students," said Bachman Headmaster Mark Frizzell.
According to Bachman's Academic Coordinator Sarah Wolverton, the text-to-speech feature, the ability to increase type size and the ability to play audio books will be useful for students that have dyslexia and sometimes need to interact with books in a variety of ways. "We aim to produce lifelong learners either with an interest in vocation or academics," she said. "With the Amazon Kindle Touch we can impact Bachman students' education by each of them being more active participants in their own education."
She also added, "The Amazon Kindle Touch will keep in harmony with the aim of Bachman Academy of getting outdoors for classroom situations, as the e-ink works brilliantly in the sunlight."
"Cleveland and Bradley County have welcomed us and offered so much support," said Mike Thomas, General Manager of Amazon's Bradley County Fulfillment Center. "As members of the community, we’re committed to supporting organizations like Bachman Academy that help make this a great area to live, work and grow. Everyone here on this campus has made it their mission to empower students who have learning differences to develop the skills and values necessary for success in our global community. As I’ve learned about Bachman, I’ve been impressed with how you work toward that mission with a focus on innovation and relentlessly high standards – which are values we share at Amazon."
