Lookouts Edge Stars, 3-2

  • Tuesday, May 22, 2012

Brevity was not king at AT&T Field on Monday night and Tuesday morning.  The Lookouts battled Huntsville for over five-and-a-half hours, which included a rain delay, in a 3-2 win in the twelfth inning.

The Lookouts scored their first run of the game in the third inning. After two quick outs, Luis Nunez doubled and promptly made his way home on a subsequent double by J.T. Wise.
Chattanooga plated another run in the bottom of the sixth just before the heavy rain started. Reigning Southern League Hitter of the Week Blake Smith led off the inning with a double to left field.

Pedro Baez then singled to right to plate a speedy Smith. Baez advanced to second on the play, but the Lookouts could not drive him home in an inning that was suspended for an hour and seventeen minutes due to rain.

Huntsville finally entered the scoreboard in the top of the eighth with two outs. Lee Haydel singled and made his way to second after a Josh Prince Walk. Tommy Manzella then ripped a single to center to bring home Haydel.

Despite several rally attempts by both clubs, the game remained tied until the bottom of the twelfth, when a Bradley Blanks (1-2) wild pitch allowed Pedro Baez to cross home safely for the win.

Blake Johnson (1-3), who pitched the top of twelfth for the Lookouts, was credited with the win.
On the mound, Ethan Martin pitched yet another gem for the Lookouts. In five shutout innings of work, he yielded just two hits and four walks, while striking out five in the no decision.

After a day off tomorrow, the Lookouts will begin the second leg of their 10-game homestand on Wednesday against the Jacksonville Suns. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
