Comcast Tennessee and Secretary of State Tre Hargett recognized the 2012 recipients of the annual Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program at a luncheon on Friday at the Adventure Science Center in Nashville.

"I appreciate Comcast's recognition and support of Tennessee's future leaders,” said Secretary of State Tre Hargett. “Together Comcast and these students are making a positive impact on Tennessee."

The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program provides one-time $1000 scholarships to students who strive to achieve their potential, who are catalysts for positive change in their communities, who are involved in their schools, and who serve as models for their fellow students. The philosophy behind the program is to give young people every opportunity to be prepared for the future, to engage youth in their communities, and to demonstrate the importance of civic involvement, and the value placed on civic involvement by the business community.

“We are proud to present these talented students with the Comcast Leaders and Achievers  Scholarship,” said Sara Jo Houghland, director of Government Affairs in Middle Tennessee. “Youth leadership development is one of the Comcast Foundation’s community investment areas of focus because we believe we can make a significant and measurable impact, and these students are very deserving of this recognition.

“Comcast seeks students who demonstrate leadership abilities in school activities and who reflect a strong commitment to community service,” stated Otha Brandon, director of Government Affairs of Comcast Memphis. “This scholarship is in recognition of their hard work and commitment to their communities.”
