Adams Named Director of Basketball Operations

  • Friday, July 20, 2012

Chattanooga Mocs Head Men’s Basketball Coach John Shulman announced Jonathan Adams’ move to Director of Basketball Operations on his staff Friday.

Adams takes the place of Brian Benator who spent three seasons with the Mocs. Adams originally joined the UTC staff in August of 2010 as graduate manager. In that role he was responsible for an array of areas including recruiting mailouts, supervising study hall and intensive summer camp work as well as coordinating meals on road trips.

“Jonathan’s been with us two seasons and is ready to expand his experience,” Shulman stated.

“It’s hard to lose good people like Brian, but I am confident in Jonathan’s abilities, and where he is headed in this business. It was time for both to make this step.”

Benator is headed to Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Va. It is one of the top private military academies in the nation and has a great post-graduate basketball program headed by Ed Huckaby.

FMS is the alma mater of incoming UTC freshman Josh Warren (Marietta, Ga.) who was one of 14 NCAA DI signees from the 2012 class at Fishburne.

Adams, a Baylor School alum, played for Blaine Taylor at Old Dominion. He was the 2007 CAA Scholar Athlete of the Year for basketball and earned multiple all-academic selection playing four years (2006-09) for Monarchs head coach Blaine Taylor.  He ended his career as the school's all-time leader in games played (135) helping lead the team to the 2009 Collegeinsider.com Championship as well as NCAA and NIT berths.

He played one season of professional basketball for the Bochum Astrostars in Germany.

His mother, Priscilla Morgan, is North Carolina State's 10th all-time leading rebounder, while father, Charles Morgan, was a Howard High School standout and Tennessee Vols defensive lineman along with his godfather, NFL Hall of Famer Reggie White.
