East Ridge Reports Surplus For Fiscal Year With Most Departments Under Budget

  • Thursday, July 26, 2012

With 100 percent of the 2012 budget year complete, East Ridge officials said all the following departments spent less than budgeted expenditures:

Police Department – 90.79%
Buildings and Grounds Department – 85.31%
Municipal Court – 96.89%
Fire Department – 94.37 %
Codes and Inspection Department – 88.05%
Street Maintenance Department – 62.55%
Traffic Control Department – 83.31 %
Animal Control Department – 74.90%
Library – 88.89%
Sanitation Department – almost 100% of budgeted expenditures, but ended the year with a $499.50 surplus, even after purchasing about $75,000 in recycling cans

Parks and Recreation Department (all budgets, which includes the Arena, Recreation Maintenance and the Community Center) spent almost 100% of budgeted expenditures, but ended the year with a $17,455.63 surplus. Additionally, the department brought in overall more athletic league revenue and this helped offset more of its operational cost, officials said.

City Manager Tim Gobble said, "By these departments staying under budgeted expenditures for the fiscal year this contributed to the city being able to post a substantive surplus for the fiscal year, which will be announced later."
