Cleveland State Announces Hall Of Fame Class

The Cleveland State Athletic Office announces its inaugural Hall of Fame Class to be inducted on Saturday, Feb. 9, with a brunch beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Mountain View Inn in Cleveland. The brunch will precede the Cleveland State women’s and men’s basketball games vs. Chattanooga State and baseball games vs. Vincennes University.

All inductees will be recognized between the women’s and men’s basketball games.

The inaugural class of 25 inductees will represent the sports of men’s and women’s basketball, women’s softball, baseball, golf and tennis, coaches, as well as recognize meritorious service to Cleveland State Athletics. The class will represent Cleveland State Athletics from 1967 through 1980.

Athletes being inducted are Steve Williams and Gene Meadows representing men’s basketball; Zandra Montgomery, Data Caldwell, Liz Jackson, and Melinda Shell, women’s basketball; Rhonda Snow and Kim Gentry, women’s softball; Mike Fitzgerald, Mike Moore, Scott Bell, Ted May, and Larry Simcox, baseball; Jim Gibson, Dr. Lynn Griffith and Ralph Buckner Jr., tennis; Mike Benson, Tom Maupin, and Winston Prince, golf. Former coaches being recognized will be Joe Crabtree, the first men’s basketball coach at Cleveland State in 1967; Hugh Walker who coached women’s basketball and softball; Steve Longley, who took the 1980 baseball team to the NJCAA World Series finishing runner up; and, Jim Cigliano who was a long time athletics director and Vice President of Student Services. Meritorious Service recipients will be Robert Kincaid and Norma Davis, both have given significant time and service to Cleveland State Athletics.

“This inaugural Hall of Fame Class recognizes the history and success of Cleveland State Athletics,” said Cleveland State Director of Athletics Mike Policastro. “I am pleased that we now have a way to honor the outstanding student athletes that have been associated within our athletic program. I would like to thank the Hall of Fame Committee for their involvement; they did an outstanding job in putting this inaugural class together.”

UTC Assistant Football Coaches To Speak At Quarterback Club

The three new UTC assistant football coaches - Tony Brown, Shawn Bryson and Rod West - are the scheduled speakers at Monday's Chattanooga Quarterback Club lunch at Finley Stadium at  noon .   The lunch is $10 and is open to the public.   UTC is in the middle of spring practice and the Spring Game is set for  April 18 . The head of a Cleveland, Tn., production company has been charged with defrauding the Cleveland-based Church of God International of $100,000 in connection with his part in setting up the church's world convention in Orlando, Fla., in 2010. City Set To Commission $200,000 Mural On MLK Boulevard By Famed Muralist Meg Saligman; Foundations To Cover Cost

The city is set to commission a $200,000 mural on the side of the AT&T Building on MLK Boulevard by famed muralist Meg Saligman.
