Dorothy Cate Cooper, 87, of Chattanooga, TN, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2013 with her daughters by her side at Elmcroft of Hamilton Place.
Dorothy was born in Athens, TN on October 25, 1925, to Clifford and Abbie Cate. She graduated from McMinn County High School, and on June 20, 1948, she was united in marriage to Glenn Cooper in Athens, TN. Their marriage was blessed with three children. In 1971, they moved to Chattanooga where Dorothy became a faithful and active member of St. John United Methodist Church, the Joy Sunday School Class, and the St. John United Methodist Women’s Group. She enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother, as well as, cooking for family and friends and at numerous church events.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Cooper; son James Cooper; parents, Clifford and Abbie Cate; and brothers, Leroy Cate, Ralph Cate, Hoyt Cate and Elbert Cate.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Barbara Cagle of Cleveland, TN and Doris Cooper of Chattanooga, TN; her brother, Delbert (June) Cate of Riceville, TN; grandchildren, Shannon (Michael) Weaver and Jameson (Alicia) Cagle; great-grandchildren, Cooper Cagle and Aspen Weaver; her very special cousin, Ronnie (Patty) Winningham of Cookeville, TN; other relatives; and many friends.
A celebration of Life of Dorothy will be held on Saturday, October 12 at 4 p.m. at St. John United Methodist Church, 3021 Murray Hills Drive. Reverends Ken LaDuke and Dallas Beck will officiate.
Visitation will take place prior to the service from 2-4 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John United Methodist Church, 3921 Murray Hills Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 7625 Hamilton Park Drive, Suite 22, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
