Lloyd Campbell
Lloyd Clyde Campbell, 86, died on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 at a local hospital.
He was born in Chattanooga, the son of the late William Clyde and Ada White Campbell and had resided in both Chattanooga and Atlanta.
He attended Central High school before enlisting in the U.S.Navy where he served his country from 1945-46 as Seaman 1st Class being stationed in China as a deep sea diver recovering military wreckage in the Asiatic-Pacific Sector. After the war he was an avid fisherman, private plane pilot, and member of the AOPA. Lloyd was the founder and former owner of Children's Fair Infant and Youth Store, which was born out of a long career in Retail Juvenile Furniture serving as the local representative and national sales director of Baby Butler.
He committed his life to Christ as a young teenager and faithfully served the Lord for all of his days. In earlier years he was the choir director of several local Baptist churches including New Liberty, East Ridge, Spring Creek, Fairview and Mission Ridge. He attended Brainerd Hills Baptist Church where he served as deacon and was known as “The Candy Man” because of his candy making hobby which supplied the Church staff, choir and several Sunday School Classes with treats twice a week for many years.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Carlton D. Campbell, as well as a niece and nephew.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years and business partner, Dorothy Young Campbell, of Chattanooga; son, L.C.(Gail) Campbell, Jr., of Stuart, Fl.; daughter, Pamela (Ross) Andrews, of Ringgold; sisters, Jean Hankins, of Ooltewah, Barbara (Bill) Crawford, of Jacksonville, Fl., Carol (Eddie) Sizemore, of Fort Oglethorpe; sister-in-law, Susie Campbell, of Fort Oglethorpe; grandchildren, Lori Baker, of Stuart, Fl., Casi (Norm) Brush, of Stuart, Fl., Josh (Lacey) Andrews, of Decatur, Ga., Paige Andrews Dantzler, of Los Angeles; three great-granddaughters; and three great-grandsons; four nieces and their families.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, 7454 East Brainerd Road with Dr. Richard Mason, Dr. E Charles Hyder and Chaplain L.C.Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery. The Lighthouse Sunday School Class of Brainerd Hills Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
