Virginia Floyd
Virginia Louise James Floyd, 85, died at a local hospital after a brief illness on Saturday, June 8, 2013.
She was born in Chattanooga, to the late Charlie James and Alice Walton James on Oct. 25, 1927. She was a former member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Westside Baptist Church where she served on the usher board and the nursery. She was a former Foster Grandparent, a volunteer for Commodity Distribution and retired from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
She was predeceased by husband, Herbert Floyd, Sr.; daughter, Cynthia James; son, Ronnie Floyd, grandson, Erick James; siblings Charlie James, Dorothy James, Gilbert James and Vivian James Bell.
She is survived by her sons, Gary (Terryl) James, Michael (Janet Houston) James, Herbert (George Etta) Floyd, Anthony Floyd, all of Chattanooga; Larry Floyd, Henning, Tn.; one daughter, The Reverend Sandra James (Leon) Johnson, Abingdon, Va.; sister, Peggy (Roosevelt) Robinson, Chicago; sister-in-law, Ora Lee James, Cleveland, Oh., 24 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the nursery of Westside Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, at Westside Baptist Church with Reverend Timothy Careathers officiating and Reverend Jack Mathis as eulogist. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
The body will lie in state after noon on Wednesday, and the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
