MURFREESBORO - Freshman striker Olivia Hoffman was in the right place at the right time as her goal in the 26th minute proved to be the match winner as No.4 Chattanooga Christian defeated No. 5 Hume Fogg, 1-0, here Wednesday in a TSSAA A-AA State Girls Soccer Quarterfinal at Richard Siegel Soccer Complex.

"The ball bounced off a couple of players and I was able to put it in from about six yards out," said a smiling Hoffman.

The Chargers (12-6-4) advance to the Thursday semis at 7:30 p.m. against top-ranked Knox Catholic. CCS had lost in the district and region finals to Notre Dame (also playing tonight) and now is in the state semis for the third time in the past four years and won it all in 1997.

CCS Accomplishes a Rarity: CCS is only the second team to score on Hume Fogg since mid-Sept. Prior to tonight's match, the Lady Blue Knights had won 14 straight, including 12 by shutout. Hume Fogg (16-4-0) had allowed a goal to Martin Luther King Oct. 17 in a 2-1 win.

"This is a good win for the team and I thought we played okay under the conditions of a wet, muddy grass field," said Chattanooga Christian coach Cal Sneller.

"After Olivia's goal I thought we should have scored a second one before the half, but didn't and Hume Fogg had some chances late in the match."
