Covenant Volleyball Wins Five Setter Over Sewanee

 Schuyler Moore and Ginny Moore combined for 41 kills and 41 digs to lead the Covenant volleyball team to a five-set win over a pesky Sewanee team on Wednesday night.

The Lady Scots won with set scores of 17-25, 25-17, 25-22, 20-25, 15-9.

With the non-conference win, Covenant moves to 22-9 overall. Sewanee drops to 8-18 on the year.

Schuyler Moore picked up her sixth triple-double of the year, and third in the last four matches, with 14 kills, 24 assists and 11 digs. Ginny Moore piled up a season-high 27 kills, 11 digs and four service aces. Covenant also got 27 digs from Chloe Carlson and 13 and 12 digs apiece from Christina Argaez and Stephanie Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick also added 18 assists.

Cora Schroeder and Pretoria den Boer registered seven and six kills, respectively.

After dropping the first set, the Lady Scots tied the match with a 25-17 second set victory. Covenant recorded 16 kills in the set and the Lady Scots scored the final four points of the game, ending with a Ginny Moore kill.

Covenant took a 2-1 match lead with a third set victory. The Lady Scots held a slim 20-18 lead in the set, but again pulled away late. Ginny Moore again finished off the set with another kill. Sewanee would respond with a fourth set win to send the match into a fifth game.

In the fifth set, the Lady Scots went on a 7-2 scoring run to break open a 4-4 tie. After Sewanee cut the Covenant lead to 13-9, the Lady Scots ended the match with a kill from Ginny Moore and a Sewanee error.

Sewanee got 14 kills from Diamond Stewart, 22 assists from Rachel Schuman and 25 digs from Sara Jayne Sutton.

Covenant will be back in action on Saturday with a USA South quad-match in Montgomery, Ala. The Lady Scots face LaGrange at noon and Huntingdon at 4 p.m. All times are eastern.
