Lee Volleyball Wins In Five Over Union University

 After jumping out to an early 2-0 lead the Lee volleyball team held on for a five-set victory over GSC-foe Union University on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Flames breezed through the first two sets with relative ease (25-22, 25-14) before the Bulldogs stormed back for victories in sets three and four (25-15, 25-22) to force the fifth and final set.

The two clubs jostled back and forth in the early moments of the tiebreaking set. With the score tied at five the Lady Flames rattled off a 10-5 run to seal the road victory.
Freshman Brooke Wilsman capped her best performance of her young career with back-to-back kills to end the match.

Wilsman ended with 14 slams on a .258 attack percentage to lead Lee. Senior Patty Orozco added 10 kills while Lauren Williams pitched in nine kills. 

Latrice Johnson slammed home six kills to go along with 12 digs. Catherine Conley had seven slams and three blocks while Haley Foote set up the offensive with 28 assists. Stephanie Hernandez anchored the defensive with a match-high 17 digs.

The Lady Flames registered double-digit kills in all but one set (third), including 10 slams and a .444 attack percentage in the final set.

Union had three players in double-figure attacks. Deja Moorer had 12 kills while Ceciley Blanchard and Hannah Huguley added 10 apiece. Lydia Wright had 22 assists and 12 digs.

The victory moves the Lady Flames to 6-8 overall and 4-5 in GSC play. Union falls to 4-12 on the year and 1-9 in conference matches.

Lee will step out of conference for a mid-week battle with NCAA Division III power Emory University on Wednesday night in Walker Arena. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
