Early View Of Hill City Is Among Photo Rarities In Stokes Collection

  • Tuesday, October 7, 2014

An early view of Hill City is among the rarities found among the Stokes Photo Collection.

The picture shows a cluster of homes along what is now Cherokee Boulevard as it is headed for the Stringers Ridge Tunnel.

The section below around the present Manufacturers Road is farmland.

The more than 700 photos from around 1900 are being published in an upcoming book by Chattanoogan.com

The photo book will be in an 11x8 1/2 format with a soft cover.

The number of copies to be printed by College Press at Collegedale will be based on the initial orders, so there will be a limited run.

The photo book is due to be ready for mailing or pickup around the first of November in time for Christmas giving.

The price of the book is $35.

For those who want it mailed, add $5 and list where copies should be mailed to. Send checks for $40 to Chattanoogan.com.

For those who will pick up the book from John Wilson at later designated locations, send checks for $35 (for each book ordered) made out to Chattanoogan.com.
