The first themed block of the Chattanooga Film Festival programming will be all about comedy, including a showcase of independently filmed and financed sketch comedy and stand-up performances by a handpicked selection of some of the Southeast’s funniest up-and-coming comics, said officials.

The Evatt & Bloom CFF Showcase will kick things off for the  ‘CFF Respects Comedy Block.’  Evatt & Bloom is a local video production company that produces comedy shorts, series, promos, and live comedy shows. Evatt & Bloom’s web-based sketch offerings have grown into a way to involve independent filmmakers and performers on a citywide scale. The showcase will include all new filmed material, some of the troupe’s greatest hits and the aforementioned stand-up.

Second in the block is an Official Chattanooga Film Festival Selection, the comedy feature Father-Like Son. Father-Like Son, directed by Mac Alsfeld, is a romantic comedy about Clark, a 24-year-old aspiring writer, who upon the death of his father is suddenly faced with a new and overbearing stepdad, Dan, a man of the same age as Clark, who is hellbent on being his father.  Clark is played by the film's director Alsfeld and Dan is played by Chattanooga native and Baylor School alum Andrew Megison.  To watch the trailer go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLCPRQy2JB4.

"I am truly honored to showcase my comedy Father-Like Son at the Chattanooga Film Festival in front of all my friends and family,” said Andrew Megison, Father- Like Son writer and actor.  “Just in case you haven't seen Big Momma's House 2, don't watch it before seeing our movie. Spoiler alert."

There will also be a screening of filmmaker E.L. Katz’s jet-black comedy, Cheap Thrills. The screening will feature an introduction by the film’s star, Pat Healy, as well as post-film Q&A. Healy has appeared in a number of films, from Werner Herzog’s Rescue Dawn to director Ti West’s thriller, The Innkeepers.
