Dorothy Robbs
Dorothy Virginia Wilkins Robbs, 89, died on July 1, 2014 at a local health care facility.
She was born on Sept. 3, 1924 to Samuel and Iona Wilkins.
Dorothy graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, Morristown Junior College and Clark College. Upon graduation from college, she first taught in the Cleveland Public School System. She then taught 38 years in the Chattanooga Public School system.
Dorothy was a devoted member of Pilgrim Congregational Church where she served as church council corporate secretary, president of the Ladies’ Guild and member of the Thursdays Child meditative group.
She was a Golden Life member and past president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She was also past president of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women and Church Women United. She was a member of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Retired Teachers Association and the Clark College Alumni Association.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Robbs, Jr. She was the sister of the late Frances, Hudson, Pauline Frazier, Margaret Reed, Arthur A. Wilkins and Samuel W. Wilkins.
She is survived by a devoted daughter, Vanessa Lucerne Robbs; a loving niece, Julia Cammon; nephew, William Van Frazier (Doris); a host of relatives, life-long friends and treasured acquaintances.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 7, at noon at Pilgrim United Congregational Church with Rev. Dr. David Brown officiating. Interment will be in National Cemetery.
The body will lie in state after noon on Sunday, July 6. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will hold the Omega Service at 5:30 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 6–8 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
