  • Tuesday, September 16, 2014

American Paper & Twine Co., Titans Radio and Georgia-Pacific Communication Papers announced Sarah Garrett from Walker Valley High School in Cleveland, Tn. was selected as Teacher of the Week, for week three of the Tennessee Titans 2014 football season.

“American Paper & Twine, in partnership with Titans Radio and Georgia-Pacific Communication Papers, is delighted to have an opportunity to reward teachers through our Teacher of the Week program,” said Ruth Elliott, American Paper & Twine Company director of marketing. “This week’s winner stood out for her commitment both inside and outside the classroom.  We are thrilled to honor Mrs. Garrett as Teacher of the Week.”

“Mrs. Garrett is an outstanding educator. She sets a standard for excellence in her classroom that is a rare find in education today,” said Susan White, Susan Garrett’s twin sister. “Mrs. Garrett has always risen to the occasion and went above and beyond to develop lessons that keep the students engaged. Because of her diligence and continual evaluation of her curriculum, the EOC test scores for Freshman English at Walker Valley are among the highest in the entire state as well as the TVAAS scores for student improvement.”

Ms. White continued, “Sarah is fully committed to supporting students in and outside of class. She is also the sponsor for invisible children at Walker Valley, and volunteers as a TnAchieves mentor for seniors at Walker Valley. There are so many other things I could go on about to explain how much Mrs. Garrett cares and pours into the lives of her students. I do not know anyone more deserving of this award than her.”

Mrs. Garrett was also awarded a Fund for Teacher Grant that she wrote in order to explore the lives of several of the authors of the books she teaches. She also volunteered to attend an intensive English staff development over the summer.

Each week during the Titans’ season, submissions are reviewed to find exceptional teachers. The winning teachers receive a $400 gift basket full of supplies for their classroom and two tickets to see a Tennessee Titans home game. A new winner is announced every Tennessee Titans game and at the end of the season a ‘Teacher of the Year’ is selected from the Teacher of the Week winners. This deserving teacher will receive an award, a gift basket of school supplies (worth approx. $800) and tickets to the Dec. 28 game vs. the Indianapolis Colts.

To nominate a teacher you would like to honor, visit www.ShopAPT.com/Teacher, and tell us why your favorite teacher deserves to be recognized. "There is no limit to the number of entries a teacher can receive, so encourage your family and friends to submit an entry," officials stated.
