James Snipes
James “J.D.” Snipes, 86, of Chattanooga, died on September, 24, 2014 in a local health care center.
Born Oct. 12, 1927 in Warren County, Tn., he had resided in East Ridge for over 60 years.
James was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea during 1947 and 1948. Returning home, he was employed with Dupont for over 35 years.
He was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga and had served as church elder for several local Cumberland Presbyterian churches for more than 50 years.
James was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary P. Snipes; parents, Rev. W.B. and Lydia Snipes and three brothers, Joe, Clifford and Horace.
Survivors are two sons, Dwight (Daisy) Snipes, Chattanooga and Randy (Sherrie) Snipes, Knoxville; three grandchildren, Lauren Snipes, Tampa, Fl., William Rand Snipes, Knoxville and Meredith Snipes, Washington, D.C.; and several nieces.
Services will be held on Friday, Sept. 26, at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Reverend Lanny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hearth Hospice or Martin Boyd Christian Home.
