The Lookout Mountain, Ga., City Council made two important appointments at a meeting on Thursday night.
Buddy Presley was sworn in as the new city judge, replacing Ricky Taliaferro. Mr. Presley and his wife have resided in Lookout Mountain, Ga., for the last three years and have been in the Chattanooga area since 1988. Mrs. Presley presently is the vice president of the Fairyland School PTO.
The council also appointed Caroline Williams to a vacant seat on the city council.
Mrs.
Williams is a longtime Lookout Mountain, Ga., resident who has served the community in various capacities, including as Fairyland School PTO president.
She and her husband, Nelson, have three children.
Up for reappointment to the city’s board of Zoning Appeals were Joe McGinness and Doug Stein. The council reappointed both.
Jimmy Campbell of the city’s sewer board presented a rough draft of the board’s mission statement. The council and City Attorney Bill Pickering will be working on that mission statement with the sewer board.
City Manager Brad Haven reported that the flow meter at the city’s sewer pump station had recently stopped working. He priced a replacement but found that in the city’s contract with the city of Chattanooga that Chattanooga is responsible for the replacement. He reported that the city of Chattanooga would be replacing the meter soon.
Mr. Haven also reported that garbage service would return to its original pickup schedule, every Tuesday and Friday, beginning at the end of January.
He stated that the majority of the city’s brush and leaf pickup is nearing completion. He also reported that all residents should be aware that, according to city ordinance 60, all trees and brush removed by a professional tree service, contractor, or landscaper must be removed by the agency. The city will not pick up that type of debris. Any brush 6” or smaller placed by the street by homeowners the city can pick up.
Mr. Haven has sent out for bids to price striping some city streets. Streets to be striped first are Fleetwood, Mockingbird, Patten and Wood Nymph along with the southern end of Cinderella.
Councilwoman Beth Soloff suggested that the city look into making some curves on Fleetwood Drive safer because there are no guardrails near dropoffs. Mr. Haven stated that he is looking into hard-scaping some of those areas with large stones.
The next regular scheduled meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 19 at 5:30 p.m.
