Charles Mitchell
Charles Homer "Buddy" Mitchell, 79, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 23, 2015, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Charles was born in Harlan County, Ky., but lived most of his life in Chattanooga. He was a hard worker with many years in the grocery business. Charles retired from Jernigan's Furniture in 1999.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings. He was devoted to taking care of his mother, Della Hall Mitchell Winebarger until her death in 1999.
Charles is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Betty; four children, Carol (Dennis) Tillison, Charles (Chuck) Mitchell, Cristi (Tom) Ellis, and Dennis Mitchell; nine grandchildren, April Tillison (Josh) Thrasher, Jason Tillison, Michael (Taylor) Tillison, Kaley Mitchell, Kelsey Mitchell, Richard Mitchell, Wil Ellis, Ryan Ellis, and Bradley Mitchell; 2 step grandchildren, Bailey Thrasher and Megan Thrasher; 3 great grandchildren, Dominick Warner, A. J. Walker, and Carson Walker; two sisters, Laverne (Ben) Bonine, Sue (Jim) Underwood, and 1 brother, Jack (Edna) Pennington; and numerous nieces and nephews who affectionately dubbed him "Uncle Buddy".)
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Charles Cochran officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens East.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Memorial Hospital Oncology Unit and Hospice of Chattanooga for the excellent care that they gave to Charles.
