Ruth Campbell Mallett, 98, Chattanooga resident, died on January 31, 2015 at LifeCare of Collegedale.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at 12 p.m. A private burial service will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery afterwards.  

Visitation will be on Monday, Feb. 2, between 4 and 7 p.m., as well as Tuesday, Feb. 3, between 10 and 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mallett was born Dec. 10, 1916, in Albertville, Al., to Walter and Myrtie Campbell.

She graduated from Crossville High School and McKenzie College.  She married Louis James Mallett on Dec. 8, 1937. 

She worked as a bookkeeper and law firm assistant, then had a career with 3M Company performing quality assurance, retiring in 1975.  After Mr. Mallett’s death in 1976, she worked in the Admissions Department of Memorial Hospital, operating one of the first computer systems.  She left there in 1983 to work with her daughter at Concern Home Health in Denham Springs, La., as medical records manager and retired from there in 1996.

Her family stated:  “She will always be honored and loved by her family and friends as an inspiring and accomplished woman who diligently exemplified the role of wife, mother, sister and friend.  We will all miss her so very much.”

She is survived by her son, Rev. James Mallett; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Tim Mayo, all of Chattanooga; sisters, Bernice Pugh of Manchester, TN, Evelyn Freeman of Moody, AL, Melba Gilbreath and Jean Glassco of Albertville, AL.; and brother, Joe Campbell of Manchester, TN.

Mrs. Mallett was preceded in death by her husband; and brothers, Arnold, Ronald, Hoyt, and James. 

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
