Chattanoogan Kate Forbes is starring in a play in her hometown.
The Chattanooga Theatre Centre hosted a Q&A with Broadway veteran actress Forbes on Sunday.
Ms. Forbes, who was raised in Chattanooga, discussed her journey to New York and the Broadway stage. She highlighted many career-influencing moments, such as when she began to understand Shakespeare. Since then, she has become known for her Shakespearean work and has won a Callaway Award for her classical theater performance. She also spoke of working opposite such actors as George C. Scott and Tony Randall.
Ms. Forbes discussed her work since returning to Chattanooga. She and husband, Stevie Ray Dallimore, have been instrumental in the theater scene for the city’s youth. Together they created the Muse of Fire Project, which is an after-school program for kids in the Chattanooga area to create original theater pieces that will then be performed for the community.
Ms. Forbes is currently performing in “33 Variations” at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre. It is a play about Beethoven’s 33 variations of an 1819 Anton Diabelli waltz.
George Quick is the director of “33 Variations” at the Theatre Centre.
Show times for “33 Variations” are 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15; 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Oct. 16-17; 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18. Standard tickets are $25 and can be bought online at tickets.theatrecentre.com.
