The new Walmart Neighborhood Market in Chattanooga opened to the community Wednesday morning with a ribbon cutting and will employ up to 95 full- and part-time associates.

“We are proud to be a part of the Chattanooga community,” said store manager Brad Walters. “We look forward to opening and providing area residents with Walmart’s everyday low prices, especially as the holiday season kicks into high gear.”

"We welcome Walmart's addition of a new neighborhood market in Chattanooga, which will increase access to convenient, affordable fresh produce and groceries," said Mayor Andy Berke. "Through this expansion, Walmart is creating nearly 100 new jobs and impacting the lives of many more families in our community."

Applicants interested in careers at Walmart can apply at a store’s hiring kiosk or online at Walmartcareers.com.  Mr. Walters began his Walmart career in 2005 as a lawn and garden associate at a store in Kentucky.

“Hamilton County is proud of the grand opening of Walmart as it will be a huge economic boost to our community, provide almost 100 jobs and will allow us to spend our hard-earned money in our own community,” said Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger.

The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of grants from Walmart to local community groups including Chattanooga Food Bank, McKamey Animal Shelter, North River YMCA, Dupont Elementary, St. Jude School, and St. Joseph School. The new store will also continue a commitment by Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to fight hunger in Chattanooga and across the U.S. Walmart and the Walmart Foundation recently exceeded a $2 billion goal to fight hunger one year ahead of schedule and have donated more than 1.5 billion pounds of food to those in need across the country.

Local residents are invited to A Big Family Welcome on Sunday from 12-4 p.m., which will give customers a chance to meet Mr. Walters and enjoy family activities and free food samples while supplies last.
