Chattanooga's D. Mangione Headlines Barking Legs Theater This Friday

  • Monday, February 23, 2015

Local Chattanooga musician, songwriter, and Birmingham native d. Mangione will host a going away party in the form of a concert featuring some of her favorite musician friends whom she has connected with during her time as a Chattanooga local musician at Barking Legs Theater, 1307 Dodds Ave., at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.  Tickets are $8 in advance from www.ArtFRONT.com,  $10 at the door.  All ages are welcome.

"This show will build up to a full set of d.'s original songs and maybe a few special covers as a going away present to all those who have shown her support during her time here. A 25 year veteran of songwriting and performing, d. has one full recorded album under her belt, now out of print, titled "In Dog Years I'm Dead." Which if we're lucky copies of may re-appear at this concert. Her attention grabbing vocals are somewhat reminiscent of a combination of Neko Case and Jill Andrews," organizers said.

d. is also a visual artist and prints of some of her paintings will be available at this show. "The especially low admission price is d.'s going away gift to the Chattanooga community so there's no excuse for missing out on this last chance to catch a future legend in action before setting sail for the big west coast scene," officials stated.

d. Mangione will also be joined onstage by Peggy Douglas Trio, Phoenix & Roberto, Webb Barringer,"The Unstoppable Jemal Traub," Bethany Kidd (of River City Hustlers) plus "doodle" and Rev'rend#9, with more festivities to be announced.

Tickets are now on sale. "You might want to get yours in advance considering the packed house concerts Barking Legs Theater has been experiencing since it's complete renovation," said Robin Merritt  of ArtFRONT presentations

Review of d. Mangione:

d. Mangione is one musician that a lot more people need to be aware of. Imagine slow rocking, intensely building, stormy, almost country blues soul ballads that will make You wonder why d. has not been a more prominently featured performer on our local scene. Maybe it's her humble nature, but if all the powerful music bursting from the seams is any sign, a lot more people across the country will be noticing her soon with her upcoming move to Seattle.
