Gertie Sluss Rains, 82, of Sale Creek, TN, die on Monday afternoon, February 23, 2015 in Chattanooga.
She was born May 20, 1932 in Jenkinjones, WV to the late Robert E. Lee and Della Mae (Walk) Sluss. A resident of Sale Creek most of her life, she was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and bird watching. She was a member of the Sale Creek Church of God.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Fred “Beecher” Rains of Sale Creek; her daughter, Norma Starr (James “Tommy”) Morrow of Ringgold, GA; two grandchildren, Shawn (Kati) Alexander of Las Vegas and Justin (Tiffany) Alexander of Soddy Daisy; two great-granddaughters, Hailey “Angel” Alexander and Hadley Alexander, both of Soddy Daisy; her extended family, Neal and Rhona Alexander of Soddy Daisy; grandsons Rick (Sammie) Taylor of Soddy Daisy and Ben (Ashley) Taylor of Memphis; three great-granddaughters, Mya, Gwyenth and Hanna Taylor; one great-grandson, Grayson Taylor; and one sister, Eugenia Miller of Hixson.
Funeral services for Gertie will be held Thursday, February 26 at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ben Taylor officiating. She will be laid to rest in Welch Rogers Cemetery.
The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Thursday, February 26 from 5-7 p.m.
