  • Thursday, February 5, 2015

The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera announced its 2015/16 season on to subscribers Wednesday at an exclusive preview event. Leading the announcement was news about Opera singer Renée Fleming appearing in a special gala event on Oct. 7 at the Tivoli Theatre. CSO Music Director Kayoko Dan will conduct the first half of the concert with Ms. Fleming performing classical and opera works. The second half will be conducted by CSO Principal Pops Conductor Bob Bernhardt and will feature Broadway and American songbook classics. Tickets are available only to 2015/16 subscribers on a pre-sale basis. Remaining tickets will be released for public sale on Aug. 3.

The Barnett & Company Masterworks Series opens with Respighi’s Pines of Rome, and includes Brahms’ Requiem, a world premiere by female composer Kendra D’Ercole, Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 performed by pianist Alexander Schimpf, and Beethoven’s Violin Concerto featuring Arnaud Sussman. The second half of the series includes Carnival of the Animals in an all-animal themed concert, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella suite, the return of guitarist Pablo Villegas performing a Rodrigo work, and ends with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. Music Director Kayoko Dan conducts all seven concerts at the Tivoli Theatre.

The Luken Holdings Pops Series begins with a Tribute to Paul McCartney, performed by vocalist Tony Kishman, the annual family favorite Home for the Holidays featuring Chattanooga native Emmy-nominated vocalist Scott Coulter, Big Band Fever with trumpeter Byron Stripling, Chattanooga’s own Seth Carico performing opera and Broadway favorites, and ending with an all-sports themed concert created by Principal Pops Conductor Bob Bernhardt. All Pops concerts are performed at the Tivoli Theatre.

The Chamber Series, performed at the Historic Read House Silver Ballroom, returns with chamber favorites from Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Haydn, Mozart, and more. The Volkswagen Series, performed at the Volkswagen Conference Center, will be geared towards families with music such as The Tabasco Opera, Haunted Hits, and Peter and the Wolf.

Subscriptions start at $60 and are available online at www.chattanoogasymphony.org, by visiting the CSO box office at 701 Broad St., or by calling 267-8583.
