In a surprise presentation on Tuesday during Chattanooga’s Groundbreaking Women’s Symposium, the Chief John Ross Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution honored Sheila Boyington with the DAR Community Service Medal.

Linda Moss Mines, representing Chief John Ross, highlighted Ms. Boyington’s service, noting that her volunteer commitments to STEM [Science, Technology, Engineering and Math] programs and leadership initiatives for young women have helped transform the Chattanooga community and created waves across the national business community.

In the Chattanooga community, Ms.
Boyington has served on the boards of Girls, Inc. of Chattanooga, the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Chattanooga State Community College Engineering program, the Mayor’s Diversity Project and countless other educational and entrepreneurial programs.  She provided early STEM programming guidance for the Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy and Girls Preparatory School. Additionally, she currently provides leadership for the Million Women Mentors, an organization committed to building a network of 1 million women mentors in STEM over the next three years.

“The professional playing field is changing dramatically because of Sheila Boyington’s dedication to education and leadership training for young women and her willingness to personally serve and mentor those very young women. She is a valuable community asset for Chattanooga and regions beyond,” Ms. Mines concluded.
